Sick day with Wyatt

Wyatt is near the end of a virus so daddy is staying home with him today.

The scene: Daddy is working at the kitchen table while Wyatt is watching an Elmo DVD. A scene comes on with the Dixie Chicks singing. The following is the dialog between Wyatt and Daddy.

• Wyatt: Can we go visit those girls some day? (similar to how he asks to go visit Mickey Mouse at Disney Land)
• Daddy (with a smile): Sure, I bet we can see the Dixie Chicks some day.
• Wyatt (with a sheepish smile): When we see them, maybe they will think I’m cute.

I'm walkin' here!

Sawyer has really started walking a lot this week.

Spring Playtime

It's spring break here, and our daycare is closed as Miss Debbie takes a well-deserved vacation. As a result, Mommy and Daddy are taking turns hanging out with Wyatt and Sawyer this week. We are thrilled that Mother Nature has cooperated to make our quality time even more enjoyable as we get to be out in the beautiful 70+ degree weather.

Here's a shot of Wyatt heading down the "big" slide at a nearby park. Yes, he's wearing a pajama top (with jeans) - Mom decided that kids deserve the chance to decide what to wear to the park sometimes, too.

8/02 - 3/10

We lost our furry little family member a few weeks ago, unexpectedly. We miss her terribly, and the house just isn't the same without her. Wyatt called her his "best friend". She was a sweet little animal; cuddly, friendly, funny, and adorable. She adopted both of our boys almost the instant they came home and would "guard" them and bring them toys. She was a companion, friend, and comforting presence. Yes, she was maintenance and could be a pain in the butt...but isn't that true of so many of our relationships in life? We expected to enjoy many more years with her, but are happy to have 7.5 years of memories.

Sled + 3yr Old = FUN

Wyatt needed to burn off some energy today (no, really, he did). We took a quick little trip to a nearby park. I love having video capabilities on my phone! I'll let the squeals speak for themselves.

Sawyer - 4 months

They say that having a baby changes everything, and they're right (whoever they are). And we knew that going from a one-child to two-child family would be a leap into a whole new state of chaos. I can't speak for Chris, but never did I anticipate that this second child would fill my world with such sweet amazement and set me on a whole new path of self-discovery. This was unexpected, and I couldn't be happier with our family of four. And no, it's not just the sleep-deprivation talking.

Sawyer is a charming, sweet, uber-laid back baby. Hungry? He'll cry. Tired? He'll fuss, and go down easily. Other than that, he is content to go with the flow, provide plenty of smiles, and is eager to watch his big brother. Oh, does he adore his big brother! The feeling is mutual. We look forward to watching Sawyer's personality grow and evolve, and can't (can?) wait to see what sort of fun (trouble?) our sons find.

Wyatt - 3 years

Even though we now have the responsibility of raising two kiddos at our house, we are still amazed that Wyatt is suddenly a 3 year old little person. He's funny, creative, imaginative, precocious, smart, and talkative - everything we could've hoped and imagined our three-year-old would be. It's fun to have full conversations - about favorite parts of our days, a story he has made up, or the monster he is pretending is under his bed (no, he's not scared of them, he actually finds monster stories quite entertaining). Perhaps the most fun part of becoming parents to this delightful little boy has been the rediscovery of the world from a new perspective - one that is entirely fresh and finds amazement in things we have long ago deemed normal and mundane.
